Putnam Barrel Project

What started off as merely a musing is now a delightful reality!

Elaine Turner, President of the local Art Guild, set eyes on those heavy industrial wooden refuse barrels last spring. She imagined stripping away years of age and weather revealing the beauty of the natural surface. Would it look like an old wine barrel? What if the circumference of the barrel could be primed and smoothed somewhat to create a canvas for local art? Could we use it to tell our story and reflect all the charm of this little town? The Monday reveal proved we could!

The Northeastern CT Art Guild Artists and local officials have partnered to make this project possible. We have 2 barrels complete and 7 to go. A shout out to Mayor Barney Seney for saying yes, Karen Osbrey, for coordinating, WINY, The Art Council, Putnam Public Works, Willie Bouquet, Art Guild members, Audrey Waters, Ramona Savolis, Bear Hands owner Kayla Trant and Sawmill Pottery manager, David Sullivan for their part in making this dream a reality! This is truly a great example of how community partnerships work.
