Adventures in Watercolor Taught by Alan James

Mondays, October 20, 27 and November 3, 10, 17, 2025 from 10am -12:30pm

@ Hale YMCA, 9 Technology Park Drive, Putnam CT

Adventures in Watercolor with Alan James, assisted by Elaine Turner: Alan will demonstrate the importance of implementing the darkest values to achieve depth in a painting as well as perspective and composition. Many times students will look at their painting and can’t put their finger on what is missing. Most of the time, they have left out the darkest values because they are intimidated by the permanency of the dark values and thus too tentative with the application of such! Through step-by-step demonstrations, instructor Alan James will show you how to overcome your fear of the dark with confidence! With an additional focus on perspective, landscape, people and still life, this is a well-rounded workshop appropriate for adults 18 years and older, with little or lots of experience painting.

Alan James is a highly respected award-winning watercolor artist and teacher. His style is impressionistic and traditionalist with emphasis on purity of design and clear, transparent colors. His art graces the walls of many private and corporate collectors worldwide. For more information about Alan and his art please visit his website at www.alanjamesart.com/about.

REGISTRATION IS LIMITED TO 12 STUDENTS with a minimum of 8 required to hold the workshop.

Registration will be accepted on a first-come basis. To reserve your place, the Event Coordinator must receive your on-line registration and full payment by September 8th. After the first 12 registrations, we will maintain a waiting list in case someone is unable to attend. A materials list will be sent to those who register. No cancelation will be accepted but a class credit will be issued if we have reached our minimum. You may transfer your registration to another member.
